COUPLES SAID I DO DESPITE COVID-19

By the end of April of this year, we were about six weeks into the shelter in place order and trying to figure out how to pivot. As a company that thrives on large in person events, office catering,  and private dinners , this was a hard and sudden blow to our business.  Our clients offices started to close one by one with employees having to work virtually. The assumption was by the end of May, maybe June if we followed safety protocols and sheltered in place then this “thing” would soon blow over.  It did not!  So we adjusted our services and were able to offer some drop off meals, and individually packaged catering to some clients.

This year looked so promising for us, we had so much planned to continue to grow our small business. We were most excited about our first wedding in August of this year. We met with the clients for a tasting in February and only had a few items to finish planning. By the time April rolled around, things were so unclear, and the couple decided to put their event on hold. Venues weren’t allowed to have large gatherings, and a lot of couples were forced to cancel or reimagine their nuptials in order to adjust to the new rules.

It really amazes us how creative couples got! Venues too, with a greater need to retain some income in 2020 complied with state regulations and came up with some amazing ways to still say I do despite the pandemic. While some couples decided to postpone their weddings until the following year, our guess is that for some having their wedding in the middle of a pandemic was a break from all of the fear and uncertainty. I mean really what better time to say I love you and I do, then when the world around you feels so chaotic. The pandemic brought us so much loss and grief,  while simultaneously giving us a new perspective on the things that really matter in life. We are so grateful, to have  been part of such an important, magical and love filled day!
